When people speak of sleep dentistry, they most often mean sedation dentistry. Sedation dentistry is a service provided by the experienced sedation dentists at Boles, Ham, Dixon & Boles for patients who are uncomfortable with the thought of dental work, that is, dental phobia. Dr. Boles is an associate with Doctors of Conscious Sedation (DOCS), and can safely and effectively treat your dental fears using oral sedatives.

For patients who have avoided going to the dentist to undergo needed cleanings or other cosmetic dental procedures, sedation dentistry is a good option. Prior to your procedure, you will be given a mild sedative to help you relax. There are no needles and there are no adverse affects.

The sedative will put you in a deep state of relaxation, but you will still be able to follow Dr. Boles’ instructions. Although you may nod off, you are not truly asleep. However, this is why sedation dentistry is commonly known as sleep dentistry. Once your procedure is completed, you will be able to rest until the sedative wears off. This occurs relatively quickly and leaves you clear-headed. You will not feel groggy for the rest of the day.

If you have avoided going to the dentist because of dental phobia and are in the Rocky Mount or Greenville, North Carolina area, please contact Boles, Ham, Dixon & Boles to schedule an appointment today.
