Symptoms of TMJ Disorder
Wilson, Greenville, Goldsboro, Rocky Mount, Raleigh & nearby areas
Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ/TMD) is a condition where the delicate ball-and-socket joint in your jaw becomes impacted or misaligned. This jaw joint is closely connected with the nerves, tendons, and muscles in your entire neck and back. If it is even slightly out of place, it can place stress on all of these tissues, causing a wide range of painful symptoms.
Some of the most common symptoms of TMJ include:
- Clicking or popping of the jaw
- Migraine-like headaches
- Tenderness or pain around your jaw
- Difficulty chewing
- Swelling in your neck and face
- Ringing in your ears (tinnitus)
- Vertigo or dizziness
Since many of these symptoms are also associated with other medical disorders, TMJ is frequently misdiagnosed by general doctors. Our neuromuscular dentists have received special training in detecting and treating TMD. If you suffer from any of the symptoms listed above, we can diagnose your condition and develop a treatment plan to help you find permanent relief.
